The nose opens with earthy notes of sage, thyme, and subtle minerality, leading into fresh raspberry and mild pepper all wrapped in creamy vanilla. The palate is full and rich, offering ripe raspberry and dark cherry with a layered, long finish. The weight and intensity of this wine allows for it to cellar well for several years. Enjoy this wine with duck, venison, or beef tenderloin, incorporating raspberries as an accompaniment in a sauce to pull flavours from the wine.
With warmer-than-average spring temperatures, 2013 on the Golden Mile Bench saw an early bud break. These above-average temperatures continued throughout the summer; however, temperatures returned to normal in the fall, allowing for full maturation to be reached in the Block 3 Cabernet Franc, some of the oldest vines on our estate.
Fruit from Hester Creek’s oldest Cabernet Franc vines was selected for this wine, and put through a 15-day maceration period. Malolactic fermentation finished in the tank before the wine was transferred to a combination of French and American oak for an average of 12 to 16 months. Final blends were unified and minimally filtered before bottling.
